The Moonlit Memory Walk is an annual event of collective healing for those who have lost a loved one, and an opportunity to raise funds to support the provision of effective hospice care in Ontario. Together we celebrate and honour the memory of those who lived, whether for minutes, years or decades, and their lasting impact on the lives of others.

The goal of the event is to raise funds to support the services provided by Home Hospice Association (HHA), increasing access to quality hospice care for the people of Ontario.

Home Hospice Association hosts this event to create a space for collective sharing and healing. The Moonlit Memory Walk celebrates the lives of parents, grandparents, siblings, children, and colleagues who have died. It honours loved ones lost before, during or after a pregnancy. It celebrates the memory of pets that are no longer with us. The walk also honours those who donated life-saving organs to others.

The Moonlit Memory Walk is an opportunity for the legacy of loved ones to live on in the memories of others. The event also builds a network to help support those who will be grieving the loss of a loved one in the future. This ever-growing community of hospice care supporters ensures that HHA can continue offering services to those who will start their end-of-life journey.

During the Moonlit Memory Walk we come together to walk by the light of the October full moon. Participants are given a lantern onto which they write the name(s) of their loved one(s), and as everyone gathers those names are read out. The lanterns are lit, and participants begin the walk carrying their lanterns to light the path.

Participants are encouraged to share their memories of their loved ones with others throughout the walk and are further engaged by the thought-provoking questions asked by the HHA walk organizers. This encourages open dialogue about the grieving experience, and participants who may have felt very alone after losing a loved one may begin to heal as they share their feelings and memories with others.

When the walk has been completed, VIP participants will enjoy a reception with a presentation recognizing those who have walked in memory of their loved ones and an awards ceremony for our top fundraisers.
