BALAZ, Joe -- is walking for his parents -- Michal and Magdelena Balaz

It’s not easy to see your parents decline in health. These people who raised you and were your strength growing up and were always there for you.

When my Mum finally succumbed to cancer after an 18 year battle we were fortunate enough to have a space in a hospice care facility for her. The care that she received and the support our family felt was wonderful, especially in a situation that you have never experienced and don’t know how to handle.

When Dad’s  illness finally became overwhelming for him we were fortunate to receive great hospital care for him, but no matter the level of care it was still institutional. The option wasn’t there for hospice care for Dad due to timing and his needs.

Hospice care is invaluable for the ill and for their families. Their strength, caring and compassion during those terrible times can’t be overstated and the goal of Home Hospice Association, of bringing this care to all who need it is one of the most worthwhile I could imagine.
